This convention provides a standard ANSI format for the data content and transmission of an ADVANCE SHIP NOTICE transaction (856) in an EDI environment. The ASN (856) transaction set lists the contents of a shipment as well as additional information such as product description, quantity shipped, carrier info, and time of shipment.

ArvinMeritor  has chosen to use the ANSI ASN (856) transaction for the timely notification of shipment information and detail from our suppliers. This information will then be used internally by ArvinMeritor  in a variety of applications.

The timeliness of this data requires that the ASN be transmitted to ArvinMeritor  within 60 minutes of the shipment leaving the suppliers dock.

If you use or will be using Supply Tech's translator, their Overlay Codes are as follows:

For parts suppliers: AR3 856
For Steel suppliers: AR4 856
